September is National Yoga Month!

Meditation is one of the eight limbs or petals of yoga, so we began our WGEM Meditation Mondays conversation this week (on Tuesday because of Labor Day) focusing on yoga. Tune in to FM 105, Talk Radio, on Mondays around 8:40 for tidbits and readings about meditation. Yogini Jan Barrett & talk show host Greg Harley Gawronski are a good team! Kudos to WGEM for being willing to host this weekly conversation about things inner.

Join us in two directions on Sept 15 - 17. Join Carol Nichols in St. Charles IL for our regional Iyengar Yoga conference called Time & Presence. Our teachers will be Mary Reilly and Gwi-Seok Hong -- the latter was Carol's roommate in India two years ago and has been studying with us at Lois Steinberg's Champaign-Urbana studio for many years. For more information, Sponsor is Iyengar Yoga Association of the Midwest, IYAMW.

Or if you're staying in Quincy, join Jan and be both the sculptor and the sculpture at the Quincy Arts Festival, 1515 Jersey, from 1 until 5 on Saturday, September 16. We will become triangles, mountains, dogs, and all manner of fun shapes!

Fourth Fridays (free!!) on September 22 from 5:30 until 6:30 pm offers new students, or students new to the Iyengar method, a sample of what to expect in a beginning level Iyengar yoga class. Please consult with Jan prior to class if you have medical concerns that might interfere with your being in vigorous exercise class. And please wear bare feet, visible knees, & an empty stomach.

Conclude national yoga month with a workshop guided by Jan & Carol on Saturday, September 30. Back to Basics, from 1 until 4 pm, will use foundational principles of Iyengar yoga to bring the mind down into the body, explore what is there, and learn to move delightfully and courageously from your own internal rhythm. Fee is $45, with registrations suggested by September 28.
