Note For Newer Students

Redbud Yoga is a safe space for people of any size or shape, with or without fancy yoga clothes, and any age.  Our studio is quiet and private. This style of yoga starts with each student where she is, whether that is in top physical condition or having some challenges. At Redbud Yoga you will find a willingness to adapt each pose to fit your specific needs. As beginners, we will meet our fingers and toes and some of the parts in between, by doing very simple and do-able postures (called asanas -- ah sah nahs).  Check out our Questions & Concerns section for answers to some of your questions, or give Jan a call or text at 217.779.9642(YOGA).

 

4th Fridays, Free Intro

 

A sample of simple poses to introduce the student new to yoga or to the Iyengar method of yoga to how to use props such as chairs & blocks to stretch and strengthen the body and quiet the mind.


Level I

 

For students who are new to yoga or to the Iyengar method and who have no major medical concerns. Beginners  learn the basics of Iyengar yoga's emphasis on awareness, alignment, precision, & correct use of props such as chairs &  blocks. Students will be encouraged to begin a home practice.

Level I Gentle

Level I-II   

 

For students who have six weeks or more of experience in Iyengar yoga. More seated poses and introduction to back extensions are included. Home practice suggested.

Back Care Basics;

Neck & Shoulder Basics

For students needing to prevent or reduce discomfort in the back/neck & shoulders and maintain strength and mobility in those areas. Ample use of props in class,  and home practice is required. During one month we focus on the back, then next month on neck & shoulders.

First Fridays

Calm the mind by opening the heart. In this class we lie over bolsters, witness the breath, and invite the riffling, rapid waters of the week to settle. You will leave with a quieter mind and a sense of renewed energy. This class. for beginners & experienced students alike, is held every fourth Friday of the month -- check the schedule around holidays for changes.

Meditation

Thirty minutes of seated (most students choose to sit in chairs) meditation with opening instructions, a reading, and occasional guidance as needed. We often use props such as blankets to honor alignment and to support the body. Open to both those experienced in meditation and those just exploring the possibilities.
